Day 2 of Cape Town- Table Mountain

Woke up this morning to such a nice sunny day, peeked out the window and had such an amazing view of the mountain. This was a sign that we had finally made it to cape town. Was absolutely amazing!! So we got up got ready etc and got a taxi to the cable car station! got our tickets and waited in a huge queue for ages, easily about 2hours!! when we eventually made it through we were the last 2 to get on the cable car! The cable car hols 65 people, so we were packed in like sardines... And with people pushing to get to the windows, it made a bit of a scary ride lol  As it leaves the station they tell you not to hold onto the rail around the edge as the floor rotates!! so there we are.. rotating in a circle in a cable car that goes very steeply up the mountain!! But got 360 degrees of amazing views.... The cable car only takes about 5mins. So we were up there in no time.

We got to the top and started looking around and thing. We decided we wanted to go to some beacon (the highest point on table mountain). so we looked for the path and started to follow it. With our experience with SA maps before this was going to an adventure... we thought it was supposed to a 45min round trip. it ended being 45 min there and 45 min back!! we had walk through a gorge and everything. Once we reached the beacon it had such amazing views it was certainly worth it. we finally trekked back to the cable car station, dying for some juice.

ONce re-hydrated we walked around the other side of the mountain to look down at Cape Town. And OMG... it was liking down on a postcard. the pics we will put up or the word we type just wont be enough  to describe how beautiful it was. It was honestly like looking down at a postcard. we walked along further and did a short walk. taking our time to enjoy this view...

As we started to head back to the cable car station we saw a better detailed map that our trek to the beacon actually took us right across the mount which was a nice surprise! we actually spent the whole day up there. once we got down from the mountain we went back to the hostel and slowly started getting ready to go out for dinner and drink on the infamous Long Street.....

We had dinner at this cool restaurant called Mamma Africa (well recommended!!) had a really nice vibe in there wit the the live music playing. We started Crocodile kebabs for starters which was laaarrrrvly! its tasted (not like chicken!!) but a bit like gammon as it was a bit salty, but also chewy too!

After an expensive dinner, we headed to Bobs bar for a few games of pool n drinks. But left after one as you were still allowed to smoke out there in bars... so we headed to stones, loving the Vodka & mixer for less than 90p!!! We continued playing pool (cha Mal winning all the games of course :)) we headed home a bit early as we had to be up and ready to go @ 8am, for our tour tomorrow :)

Day One of Cape Town

Leaving Plett...

Nearly missed the bus...we checked out etc, left our stuff in reception and sat in the tv room waiting for the baz bus! this ended up coming early and the reception people didnt think to look in there so was just by chance that i needed the loo and saw it sitting there in the driveway..!

We watched quite a few movies on the journey, it was like 10hours!! stopped of in a town called George for mcds... our first South Africa mcdonalds since wed been out there! we had a bit of a rant at a girl sitting infront of us about us having the window open and her being cold.. she eventually moved to the front of the bus (ooops!).

When we got to about 2 hours away from cape town we had a massive detour due to a landslide and the road being blocked! we ended up going the scenic route right along the coast however we could see nothing as it was pitch black..

Eventually got dropped at our hostel about 10.15pm, had a drink at the bar and went to bed..

Day 1- Cape Town

We woke up this morning hoping to go see table mountain but when we went outside it was so foggy we had no idea where it was.. so instead we headed into the city to check out a few places wed seen in a guide and been told by other people!

We walked down long street (the place to be apparently..) and ended up in Green Market Square, all the stalls were still setting up etc so we went into a cafe and had some tea! we managed to get a few bargains in the market! we both liked these african paintings.. so i (slou) managed to get 2 for R55 after being told they were R70 each..

After a morning of bargaining we headed for Castle of Good Hope which was quite a bit out of the city! we saw them do the changing of the guard and then they were going to let off a cannon, they warned us that it would be loud! however.. we thought they were taking the piss as this cannon was tiny!!! but OMG the noise that came from it.. i think we both screamed!! the tour was pretty good, got shown into the old prison cells, the torture chambers and a huge dining room! in the torture chamber cell they turned off the light so we could get an idea of how dark and horrible it was! after the tour was finished we had a look in the museums around the castle!!
That little cannon that made so mush noise!

LUNCHTIME!! people had told us to check out the Eastern Food Bizzare, wed passed it on the way to the castle so decided there for lunch was a must! it was lots of eastern food stalls where you could get a meal to eat there or take away! we opted for Chinese dishes.. the cashier messed it up tho so we both ended up with noodles so charlie missed out on her beloved rice! was real tasty!

After lunch we went in search of a piece of the Berlin wall that had been given to nelson Mandela as a gift! after going the wrong way numerous of times.. we found it!! seriously, the maps in SA are useless! its like they do them wrong just to trick tourists, and that works!!

Nelsons personal piece of the Berlin wall

We then went across the road and took a walk through the company gardens which were very pretty! there were lots of squirrels running around but they would actually come up to you, not like the ones back home that run off!! after here we headed for an area called the Bokaap which is a street full of brightly coloured houses, looks like you're walking through balamory or something!

We then headed back for the hostel, stopping for a drink in Long Street Cafe on the way. by now the fog had mostly cleared and the sun was shining.. it was 5pm!! on the walk up the hill we checked the map to work out what direction the mountain shouldve been in.. turned around and pretty much BAM it was right there!! was crazy to think we hadnt seen it but the fog was that bad!! through our window at the hostel we had an amazing view (through the burglar bars) of the mountain too!!
Our first sight of Table Mount.

Plett!

Wednesday 11th

Got the Baz bus from Ubuntu and after about an hour had a breakfast stop, met a few people on the bus none were very chatty. Got to our hostel in Plett about 12.30pm. When we got to our hostel we sorted out all our washing that needed doing and headed around to find somewhere to do it. Whilst waiting for the washing we did some food shopping. Weather wasn’t great at all, lots of fine rain!

Tried to sort out what activities etc we were gonna do here and surprise surprise… the hostel wasn’t very helpful. We ended up finding some peoples numbers who were more willing to help and told us theyd get back to us in the morning. Later on, one of the guys called back and invited us to an open mic night at his bar called surf café. So after our spag bol dinner we played some pool and got a taxi down there!

us in Surf Cafe!

Drinks prices here are awesome!! For a pint of beer and a bottle of cider.. under £5!!!! And when we got bored of that, 2x soco & lemonade… £3.60!! that would only buy you one at home plus the measures here are a bit more generous..!!

It was a really good night, the singers etc were quite good singing all the goodies J So singing loud n proud plus cheap drinks it was a very good night J however, it ended a bit early (south Africans ust cant handle it lol)

Once back we just hit the hay…

Thursday 12th

The morning after…. Haha we wernt  hanging so that was good! We waited for Blue (the guy from the tour place) to ring us back about what we wanted to do. We found out we could to our canopye tour… but! The shuttle there was going to coast 350R each!!! That’s the coast of the activity again!! So it wasn’t in our budget but he would get back to us about sea kayaking.  So with no activites today we went for a walk around Plett.

the view from our dorm room!

We got a little bored of waiting for the guy to get back to us about the sea kayaking so we rung our own people and booked ourselves in for 12pm the next day.. we also tried to sort out doing an African township tour with the hostel but as we don’t have a car we couldn’t do it! So we rung the taxi guy from last night to see what he said (his business card said he did them..) so he told us he’d pick us up, sort out a tour guide and do the tour for us.. luckily, during our walk we came across the kayaking place and rearranged the time!

Our  walk to took us too a hotel called Becon Island which has a coffee lounge out on the sea. So we sat there watching the waves crashing against the rocks. It was like our own little firework display, such a lovely view. We then got asked if we wanted to take part in the quiz… so of course we said yes! We actually did alright at it J after the quiz a whole load of dolphins crossed the bay! Was amazing you could see them jumping right out of the water!
Beacon Island coffee lounge!

When we got back we had a chilled evening, we had a fry up for dinner! However due to our previous eggs.. a girl we met called Mon, made our eggs for us! Ended up being a pretty amazing dinner! Afterwards we retired to the tv room where a few guys were in there already watching the original tarzan… we say don’t bother. Disney does it much better!! So after we called it a night..

Friday 13th

9am.. Sea kayaking!!! Early start, the guy (Giovanni) who run the kayaking thought we were crazy for actually turning up as the weather was predicted to be pretty crazy but being from England, were used to it! So we got changed into shorts and warm layers and headed into the sea in our double kayak!
Getting from the beach to the calmer waves was the hardest part then we kayaked around the lounge we’d sat in yesterday! Our total trip was about 5km all round and unfortunately we didn’t see any dolphins or whales! I do admit that Charlie did most of the work when we were in the kayak.. the ocean was really warm! When our hands got cold we were putting them in to make them warm again!! Getting back to the shore was also hard, we had to paddle real quick and strong so that we would beat the breaking waves.. we nearly managed it, right at the last minute a wave took us with it and Charlie managed to douche me in the head with her paddle… tit!!! We put the kayaks back, had a lovely warm shower, cup of tea and got dropped back at the hostel!! Had enough time for a bacon and (own done) egg sandwich before getting picked up by Johan for the township tour…

The township tour was a real eye opener, our first stop was a children’s shelter and school. As its school holidays hardly any kids were there. We had a look around, they were a few volunteers there helping out. The had a good base, but obvisuouly not as good as some of our facilities back home. Next we went to the newly built community centre. This is where all the government offices are, it was good, but again not home standard. For instance the library,  the shelves were half full or empty.

Next we went to the community college, that was a good set up too. But thew kitchen where they taught how to become chefs etc was not left in the cleanest of states. Johan (taxi man) was quite disappointed by this, but as he said.. it just shows how ungrateful they are to have it.  We then took a drive through the townships. Everyone was quite friendly waving and smiling at us. But all around them was just poverty. We stopped at a house with a family playing cards outside in the rain by a fire. We got to look around their house. And…. Well, you cant even imagine how bad it was. The wall made out of card board, everything was mouldy, it was falling down around them. Two rooms in the whole shack. One for cooking, one for sleeping. It was hard hitting to see, it got worse when the lady who showed us around said “we wish you could help us…”. I literally just wanted to hand over all the money I had on me. But even that wouldn’t have been enough to help!

We continued driving around, stopped at another house. This time is wasn’t as bad. But I still wouldn’t want to be there. This lady showed us around, luckily had a job. She washed clothes for people just to earn money for food. She even offered to do ours, bless her!  She said to us that she knew it wasn’t a great place to live but she was just grateful that she had a roof over hers and her family’s head.
We then carried on driving and stopped at a tavern! It was empty but apparently at night it gets real lively with a lot of dancing, drinking etc. we got a cider each! R16 each for a 660ml bottle of hunters cider. Which is less than £1.50!!! we were amazed! We had a game of pool here with the taxi drivers, we lost but was fun!

We had to get a bit of a move on as the driver had forgotten about people he had to pick up an hour away but still, on the way home we drove through an informal settlement which was really just tin shacks. The roads were all dirt tracks and there was so many pigs, chickens a dogs running around!

view of the informal settlement.

After our tour we returned to the hostel. Sat by the fire and finished off our ciders and playing pool. Taking in what we had just seen… for the rest of the day/evening we chilled, cooked then slou attempted to do this puzzle of her, without much success.  Whilst I fell asleep like a lazy bum.

Zzzzzzzzzzzz…..

Saturday 14th

Today is our last day in plett and the heaven decided to open up today! ! has done nothing but rain… but this wasn’t rain you could deal with, it was like torrential pour, non stop! It was so windy, there was thunder and lightning!! We did brave it.. felt like a mission though! We went round the corner, both bought a book to read in a 2nd hand bookshop and then went into a tea shop & bakery to have breakfast/lunch! And use the free wifi! J  was very tasty in there!

Since then we have been chilling in the hostel reading our books by the fire.. on the agenda for tonight is have dinner, pack up all our stuff and be ready for cape town tomorrow!!

8th July- J-Bay

Sunday 8th

The Baz Bus picked us up at 7am to take us on to Jeffery’s bay.. we got to our hostel there at 8.15am and there were other people there!!!! Checked in, had a tour and made use of the free breakfast and tea that the hostel provided! We went out pretty much straight away, took a walk along the beach where we came across a lot of surfers, so we sat and watched them for a while. We then went backwards to the shops and got a drink and sausage roll. We heard there were a lot of outlet stores here so we went looking… we eventually found them so had a look round and picked out what we wanted, but being us we didn’t bring any money so would have to go back..
Once back at the hostel we chilled out and took full advantage of the free pool table. Charlie was clearly the best competitor here J.  After din dins we sat and watched War horse with everyone else and got an early night as we were shattered!

Monday 9th

We got just in time for breakfast and to decide what we wanted to do. We got a surfing lesson booked for 10am. We got picked up and headed down to the beach.
Once all dressed in our very fetching wetsuits it was time to hit the waves! We got shown all the tekkers and as you all expect we bossed them! Ha! We did alright. Couldn’t believe how much hard work it involved. Totally different kind of fitness for this. Unfortunately our hockey ball chasing skills didn’t come in handy L we had a good go, neither or us could stand up. But we had so much fun pullin the titanic/wally woman move we didn’t care J

After our lesson was over, we headed to a café where we got 10% off because of our lesson. Who puts sauce on the outside of the wrap?!?!? How am I supposed to pick it up…fools!! Other than that was laaarrrrvly.! We then  went to the outlets and picked up what we wanted from the other day and headed back to the hostel.
After our marathon of a walk and beast of a surfing session we collapsed into bed for a few hours. Got showered etc and chilled. But poor little Cha Mal felt ill L so it was a really early night 730pm!!! and we went to bed one drugged up the other sober…

Tuesday 10th

A mix of all the early starts weve had and the fact we went to bed real early last night.. at 7,30am we were wide awake!!!! So we waited till 8 to get up so we could get our breakfast which we sat on the balcony and ate! After we got ready and headed down to the beach! Today was the first day of the billabong pro surf competition so we thought we’d watch!!  Got ourselves a nice spot on the beach, watched from there until we got thirsty and managed to get a balcony seat which had a much better view, plus it was right next to the bar! A few 10am ciders.. its pm somewhere in the world J

Was real cool watching proper surfers and how they do it! They make it look SO easy but we tell you.. it isn’t! we still ache!! Was a nice day on the beach.. when it got to 3 tho we decided to head back as we had a lot of packing to do…
Dinner was the same as last night with the added luxury of cheese.. we had a couple of games of pool then joined some other backpackers to watch a film.. no idea what it was called but it was an ok film, however the ending… pffft rubbish!!!
By then it was 11 so we went to bed to make sure we didn’t miss our bus to Plett in the morning…

6th July- The real Port Elizabeth

6th July

We left Johnnys early to head to the airport, to take back the hire car and fill it up with petrol which meant I was driving.. wasn’t too bad but some of the other drivers just wow.. (ssssh because I can imagine some of the things people reading this are saying now, you think my driving is bad well come here and see theirs..) anyway… gave the car back etc said goodbye and headed to check in..

The woman asked to see the card the flight was booked with which caused problems as I have a new card so obviously the numbers didn’t match she wasn’t very helpful at all but luckily I remembered most of the number and she checked our bags in and gave us our boarding passes..

We didn’t have long in the airport so grabbed a cuppa tea before boarding however, neither of us drunk it as it was too hot.. who puts boiling hot milk in tea?! Flight was really short.. 1 hour 20mins if that! Got some breakfast on board in the form of a muffin, fruit juice and some weird yogurt stuff!

We collected our bags and headed out to get some phone credit to ring the hostel to come get us. They called us a taxi… 1 hour and 30mins later.. we still were at the airport so eventually we jumped in one and arrived at the hostel which was like 15mins away.. well the look on our faces as we pulled up to the hostel would’ve been a picture.. well we went in,my card got declined (oh sh*t!!) but charlies worked so it was okay.. we got a mini tour and then headed outside where we were shown our room…  a shed!!!!!!!!!  When we’d booked we got a room because it was cheaper than a dorm however we didn’t know it would be a shed in the back garden!!

We chucked our stuff in and went in search of a shop to get some food for lunch and for dinner.. well it wasn’t a very nice place at all, sums that up really we practically ran there and back was like a ghost town..
We braved PE again by taking a walk to some historical (free!!) things to do like, seeing the fort and climbing up the light house. They were quite good but still couldn’t belive how dead it was!!

First nights sleep in the shed was cold, sleeping bags, duvet and a blanket and still cold…

7th July
Next morning we got a taxi down to the boardwalk in town with Iris, a girl also staying in the hostel, again it was dead.. but we had a look round, took a walk along the pier, had a nice lunch in a restaurant called Barneys before walking the 45min walk back to the hostel!

This nights sleep was a lot colder!! To say we were happy to be leaving the next morning was an understatement…

The hostel itself wasn’t too bad inside… but the advertising needs to be slightly more accurate!! A garden shed, in the middle of winter is certainly not something anyone should pay for!!!!!
Now heading to J-bay J xxx

3rd July- Jo'berg

After our big adventure in the Kruger, we decided to have a day off. We even had a lie in... thought i wouldn't call it much of a lie as we are too used to getting up early now :(
We caught up on washing and had a late lunch. This lunch was amazing, a nice Italian restaurant. two bottles of wine a coffee liqueur ice cream later, we were back chillin at jimmys. Of course it wouldn't be a trip out if we didn't get a little lost trying to find jimmys place again....
once back we updated our blog and chilled for the rest of the evening. A well earned day of rest we think. :)
Our two alcoholic ice creams :)

Today (Tuesday!) we decided to venture into Jo'burg. We headed straight to the apartheid museum. This is because after talking to johnny and Jimmy there is so much history and politics we have never heard of about south Africa. so we went to the museum, was interesting. but they (africans) portray it the way they want to too see it. plus there was far too much reading so we got bored lol nevertheless, was still informative.

afterwards Johnny took us to the Carlton Centre to the "top of Africa".. basically you went to the 50th floor of this shopping centre and you could look out over the whole of Jo'burg.. was really cool to see so far! wasnt the nicest of towns to be in if we're honest but was nice to actually visit a place you hear about so often.
One of the views from the carlton centre

we then went to the nicer part of town for some lunch.. went to a restaurant called ocean basket which was lovely. every place we have eaten at out here has been lovely! so much better than home restaurants thats for sure!! on the way home Johnny gave us a bit of a tour of the other suburbs of Jo'burg before we eventually reached Jimmy's... we didnt get lost this time.. improvement :)

when we pulled up at Jimmys there was a police car already on the drive.. ot oh.. the house at the back which is where Jimmy's son Matthew and family live had been broken into! they had a few laptops and electrical stuff stolen, plus the cheeky fxcks had taken off their shoes stolen matthews but left theirs there!!

to make things a little better.. we all had a lovely Braai with some beverages and chilled the night away!

have an earlyish start in the morning with a journey back to Durban.. let's see what adventure we have in store..

Goodnight all much love xxxxx

1st July- Kruger- Jo'berg

5am start.. left our hut in Shingwedzi at 6am to start the drive back down to Malelane gate. Stopped at Mopani for breakfast and to fill up with petrol before carrying on. Didn't really see any animals on the journey until we were at least half way through if not more.. there were lots of cars pulled up so we knew it was going to be something big.. was only when they came out of the bush right next to the car that we saw 4 leopards!! they were heading to the other side of the road where a herd of Zebra were just chilling. we saw the leopards start to stalk them and try and split up the group of zebra deciding which one they wanted, until they all run off into the distance.

Just to put it into perspective of how lucky we were, Kruger park is bigger than Wales! and some people can go there year after year and don't see half of what we saw, especially leopards. and we got to see four! it was such an amazing experience, the pictures just don't do it justice.

After we left the Kruger we had a 5hr journey to Jo'berg to stay with one of johnny friends, Jimmy a welshman!

now we are getting an early night and a lie in! so will update again soon :)

lots of love

30th June- Day 3 Kruger

Another early start today, decided to go out for a early morning drive to see what we could see..  we headed back to the hideouts we visited yesterday and saw again some hippos and lots of birds. On the drive we saw a lot of buffalo crossing the road. There was a small pack of them, one by one crossing the road. Got some great photos here.

We came back to make some breakfast and pack up our things as we had to check out at 10am. On the way out again we went to the conference centre on camp for me (slou) to check my results.. graduating with a 2.2 in finance & accounting J definitely didn’t think id be getting a degree so you know.. very pleased, and what a better place to find this out?!

On the main road towards the next camp we didn’t see too much, a lot more elephants , springbok and other antelope which are everywhere in the park. We then took a turning down dirt tracks, finding more elephants giraffes and some monkeys. We kept heading towards a watering hole. Next thing we knew I (Charlie) spotted a lion in the grass. It was a she, she was standing there just watching something… we the learnt that she was stalking something. We stopped and watched for a while until she moved to chase her prey.  Was so awesome!!

We continued our journey to this watering hole, only to find we weren’t allowed down that track. So we continued to the look out. The was some toiliets there, so we shared a joint wee in the hole that was provided (in separate  “cubicles”) it STUNK!!!!!! We then climbed a few rocks to get a better view. Then all of a sudden we heard this huuuge growl/lions roars, we shat ourselves… making Jonny go first up the rock so we could get a could picture. We finally made it safely back to our vehicle…..

We then made our way to the camp, spotting more animals along the way. We checked in, unpacked and chilled for a little bit. Before heading out again to some watering holes. There ended up being all dried out so we could see much. But on our return to the came we kept running in lots of elephants.

Now we are just waiting for our food to be cooked on the Braii, chicken, pork chops and some more SA sausage… yum yum J

Tommmorow we have ANOTHER early start…. This time heading down to Jo’berg.

29th June - Kruger Day 2

LIE IN!!!! 8.45am start..

Up in time to make bacon & eggs for breakfast and lets just say with an electric cooker me or Charlie cant make eggs! Embarrassing really but it was a bundle of laughs sitting down to eat our scrambled/omelette/fried eggs..

We then headed out for a drive, headed north on the main Kruger road but turned off onto dirt tracks to do a massive loop back to the camp! We didn’t really have much luck today spotting new animals but we did see a lot of elephants!! We saw one all on his own having a mud bath! Was so cool to watch!

On our way back to the camp we stopped at a couple of hides. We didn’t see much, there were a few hippos. And then the second hide we saw 3 massive crocodiles!! Was awesome, you could see all their scales and teeth through Johnny’s’ binoculars.

Once back to camp, we cracked open the beers and started the Braii again. This time steak was on the menu. Yum yum…. It was so good. We also had boerwrs (SA sausages…) also lovely.  Discovered that we don’t like mustard lol we also opened a bottle of SA finest red wine. Went down lovely with the steak. After dinner, we all went to bed early again…. Ready for another early morning of game spotting…

28th June - Kruger Day 1

Another 5am start.. dark, cold and we were definitely tired!

However around about 7.30am we made it to the Malelane Gate and started making our way from the bottom of Kruger to our first camp, Mopani. But before we even reached the gate we saw Hippos in the river… we were dead excited!!  Within the first hour we saw LOADS! It was actually amazing! We saw 3 elephants trekking through an empty river and then saw a group of giraffes!

We then we went on to see hyenas running down the road and a whole troop of baboons take over the road! There were about 50 of them. And one even started dancing for us! It was so funny… At about 10am we stopped for breakfast and all 3 of us had the breakfast wrap which was lovely! And then it was my (slou) turn to drive… started off very interesting but eventually was fine.

We saw lots more elephants, zebras, springbok and giraffes along the way. It was incredible. When we didn’t think we could get much more, we saw a lion. However was a bit of shame that sooo many other people saw it too. So there was many other people watching and blocking our view. However me (Charlie) got one awesome pic (see below).

We continued on our route to our first camp of Mopani. We saw so many animals, we were ever so lucky to see so much game on the first day. We finally reached our camp about 4:30pm, checked and started to unpack in our little hut.

After we had unpacked, (unpacking the beers & putting them into the deep freeze) we crack them open and chilled on the veranda. Was so peaceful, we started the Braii (BBQ), tonight was ribs :). Me and Slou were in charge of the salad… it actually turned out quite well! Conversation flowed as well as the beers. Until, it was bed. And a early one at that…. 9:30pm!!

Here some other safari pictures….

Durban to Nelspruit 27th June

Today the plan was to start on the 6/7hour journey towards Kruger Park so we could start early the next day with spotting animals etc. So we were heading to a hotel in Nelspruit, approximately 1hour from the park gate and around about 7hours from where we were in Durban.

We had a lovely 5am start and we were both actually really awake and excited! Went into the living room and was greeted with an AMAZING view of the sunrise over the Indian Ocean. So we stood taking photos and admiring for a while before making some breakfast!

Eventually (after forgetting a few things :S) we headed to Nelsprite, it was mainly up the motorway so not much to see. However we did go through a town called Amsterdam! Nothing like the city we know though…. We stopped off at Peit Reitief for lunch then back on the road again….
We had a hire car from the airport, however it kept cutting out constantly :S we decided to ring the company to get a replacement. The only problem was it was waiting in Nelsprite still about 4hrs away… We saw a fair bit of the country that was good. Taking in the scenery etc.

We finally reached Nelspruit about 5:30pm!! First stop…. The bottle shop! Once stocked up on  2 crates of beer, 1 crate of cider and 4 bottles of wine! (bear in mind we are in the Kruger for 3 nights….) we decided to look for the airport to pick up our replacement car……
Well what an adventure that turned out to be! Soon after we left the bottle shop it was pitch black! And south African motorways don’t believe in lights or lots of signposts so we had to depend on the headlights last minute to find where we were going. After being ¾ of the way there, Johnny is convinced we are going the wrong way so in an attempt to turn around we end up on the hard shoulder of the opposite side of the road, facing the wrong way!! We eventually turned round and headed back to where we came from… after various times of turning round we ended up back on the original road and finally made it to the airport where we unloaded and got a new car..

Next challenge was to find dinner. Which we found in the form of pizza and chips from a random take away shop somewhere in Nelspruit.
Our final challenge of the night was to find the hotel.. this wasn’t so hard and we made it there absolutely fine however.. when we got there we didn’t know the code to get into the gates and so we then headed to the nearby garage to get phone credit and ring them to let us in… we got in… and started to find reception. The first building we came across, Jonny jumped out and tried to check us in. Only to find that the door he was banging on, wasn’t reception but some random actually staying at the lodge too :s hahaha

That’s the lodge we stayed in…
We soon found reception, unloaded and went straight to sleep as we had another early start the next day….

The journey...25th/26th june

hello..
So we enjoyed an awesome meal at armadillo in gatwick (shame about the service tho..) then enjoyed some expensive beverages in wetherspoons before heading to board the plane!

On the first flight to dubai it was 6hours. there was a VERY strange guy sitting the other side of the aisle to us who decided to eat all his meal with his fingers mixing them all together, a very strange combination of a tuna salad, a blackcurrant cheesecake and a lamb curry plus the cheese and crackers, you can only imagine..
Charlie had a bit of a funny moment and chucked water all over my feet :( they dried out eventually!!

Arrived at dubai at 7am to 30C hot hot hot! went in search of food, ended up with mcdonalds.. MEGA BIG MACS!! 4 slices of beef!! however, we just stuck the an orignary Mc Chicken Big Mac...

We then found a little place called The Hub. So naturally, as Brunelians we ventured in... only to be then chucked out again as we werent going to spend enough!!! Definately not the Hub we know and love at uni...

Next was the finally leg of our journey, Dubai-Durban. first off we nearly missed the boarding due to falling asleep on the floor just down from the gate, only by chance we woke up to check what the time was! no wierdos on this plane, a lot of crying babies tho! mainly slept on this flight, couldnt keep our eyes open! after 8hours, finally landed in Durban at 4.45pm (we're an hour ahead of you)!

so now we are near Sheffields Beach, Durban writing this, waiting for our nandos takeaway... original meal day for us today.. off to Kruger early in the morning! till next time..
