Another 5am start.. dark, cold and we were definitely tired!
However around about 7.30am we made it to the Malelane Gate
and started making our way from the bottom of Kruger to our first camp, Mopani.
But before we even reached the gate we saw Hippos in the river… we were dead
excited!! Within the first hour we saw
LOADS! It was actually amazing! We saw 3 elephants trekking through an empty
river and then saw a group of giraffes!
We then we went on to see hyenas running down the road and a
whole troop of baboons take over the road! There were about 50 of them. And one
even started dancing for us! It was so funny… At about 10am we stopped for
breakfast and all 3 of us had the breakfast wrap which was lovely! And then it
was my (slou) turn to drive… started off very interesting but eventually was
fine.
We saw lots more elephants, zebras, springbok and giraffes
along the way. It was incredible. When we didn’t think we could get much more,
we saw a lion. However was a bit of shame that sooo many other people saw it
too. So there was many other people watching and blocking our view. However me
(Charlie) got one awesome pic (see below).
We continued on our route to our first camp of Mopani. We
saw so many animals, we were ever so lucky to see so much game on the first
day. We finally reached our camp about 4:30pm, checked and started to unpack in
our little hut.
After we had unpacked, (unpacking the beers & putting
them into the deep freeze) we crack them open and chilled on the veranda. Was
so peaceful, we started the Braii (BBQ), tonight was ribs :). Me and Slou were
in charge of the salad… it actually turned out quite well! Conversation flowed
as well as the beers. Until, it was bed. And a early one at that…. 9:30pm!!
Here some other safari pictures….
