Day One of Cape Town

Leaving Plett...

Nearly missed the bus...we checked out etc, left our stuff in reception and sat in the tv room waiting for the baz bus! this ended up coming early and the reception people didnt think to look in there so was just by chance that i needed the loo and saw it sitting there in the driveway..!

We watched quite a few movies on the journey, it was like 10hours!! stopped of in a town called George for mcds... our first South Africa mcdonalds since wed been out there! we had a bit of a rant at a girl sitting infront of us about us having the window open and her being cold.. she eventually moved to the front of the bus (ooops!).

When we got to about 2 hours away from cape town we had a massive detour due to a landslide and the road being blocked! we ended up going the scenic route right along the coast however we could see nothing as it was pitch black..

Eventually got dropped at our hostel about 10.15pm, had a drink at the bar and went to bed..

Day 1- Cape Town

We woke up this morning hoping to go see table mountain but when we went outside it was so foggy we had no idea where it was.. so instead we headed into the city to check out a few places wed seen in a guide and been told by other people!

We walked down long street (the place to be apparently..) and ended up in Green Market Square, all the stalls were still setting up etc so we went into a cafe and had some tea! we managed to get a few bargains in the market! we both liked these african paintings.. so i (slou) managed to get 2 for R55 after being told they were R70 each..

After a morning of bargaining we headed for Castle of Good Hope which was quite a bit out of the city! we saw them do the changing of the guard and then they were going to let off a cannon, they warned us that it would be loud! however.. we thought they were taking the piss as this cannon was tiny!!! but OMG the noise that came from it.. i think we both screamed!! the tour was pretty good, got shown into the old prison cells, the torture chambers and a huge dining room! in the torture chamber cell they turned off the light so we could get an idea of how dark and horrible it was! after the tour was finished we had a look in the museums around the castle!!
That little cannon that made so mush noise!

LUNCHTIME!! people had told us to check out the Eastern Food Bizzare, wed passed it on the way to the castle so decided there for lunch was a must! it was lots of eastern food stalls where you could get a meal to eat there or take away! we opted for Chinese dishes.. the cashier messed it up tho so we both ended up with noodles so charlie missed out on her beloved rice! was real tasty!

After lunch we went in search of a piece of the Berlin wall that had been given to nelson Mandela as a gift! after going the wrong way numerous of times.. we found it!! seriously, the maps in SA are useless! its like they do them wrong just to trick tourists, and that works!!

Nelsons personal piece of the Berlin wall

We then went across the road and took a walk through the company gardens which were very pretty! there were lots of squirrels running around but they would actually come up to you, not like the ones back home that run off!! after here we headed for an area called the Bokaap which is a street full of brightly coloured houses, looks like you're walking through balamory or something!

We then headed back for the hostel, stopping for a drink in Long Street Cafe on the way. by now the fog had mostly cleared and the sun was shining.. it was 5pm!! on the walk up the hill we checked the map to work out what direction the mountain shouldve been in.. turned around and pretty much BAM it was right there!! was crazy to think we hadnt seen it but the fog was that bad!! through our window at the hostel we had an amazing view (through the burglar bars) of the mountain too!!
Our first sight of Table Mount.
