6th July- The real Port Elizabeth

6th July

We left Johnnys early to head to the airport, to take back the hire car and fill it up with petrol which meant I was driving.. wasn’t too bad but some of the other drivers just wow.. (ssssh because I can imagine some of the things people reading this are saying now, you think my driving is bad well come here and see theirs..) anyway… gave the car back etc said goodbye and headed to check in..

The woman asked to see the card the flight was booked with which caused problems as I have a new card so obviously the numbers didn’t match she wasn’t very helpful at all but luckily I remembered most of the number and she checked our bags in and gave us our boarding passes..

We didn’t have long in the airport so grabbed a cuppa tea before boarding however, neither of us drunk it as it was too hot.. who puts boiling hot milk in tea?! Flight was really short.. 1 hour 20mins if that! Got some breakfast on board in the form of a muffin, fruit juice and some weird yogurt stuff!

We collected our bags and headed out to get some phone credit to ring the hostel to come get us. They called us a taxi… 1 hour and 30mins later.. we still were at the airport so eventually we jumped in one and arrived at the hostel which was like 15mins away.. well the look on our faces as we pulled up to the hostel would’ve been a picture.. well we went in,my card got declined (oh sh*t!!) but charlies worked so it was okay.. we got a mini tour and then headed outside where we were shown our room…  a shed!!!!!!!!!  When we’d booked we got a room because it was cheaper than a dorm however we didn’t know it would be a shed in the back garden!!

We chucked our stuff in and went in search of a shop to get some food for lunch and for dinner.. well it wasn’t a very nice place at all, sums that up really we practically ran there and back was like a ghost town..
We braved PE again by taking a walk to some historical (free!!) things to do like, seeing the fort and climbing up the light house. They were quite good but still couldn’t belive how dead it was!!

First nights sleep in the shed was cold, sleeping bags, duvet and a blanket and still cold…

7th July
Next morning we got a taxi down to the boardwalk in town with Iris, a girl also staying in the hostel, again it was dead.. but we had a look round, took a walk along the pier, had a nice lunch in a restaurant called Barneys before walking the 45min walk back to the hostel!

This nights sleep was a lot colder!! To say we were happy to be leaving the next morning was an understatement…

The hostel itself wasn’t too bad inside… but the advertising needs to be slightly more accurate!! A garden shed, in the middle of winter is certainly not something anyone should pay for!!!!!
Now heading to J-bay J xxx
